With a baby on the way, our customer brought in this child’s rocker to see if it could be restored. As you can see, it was in pieces, the caned seat shot and one leg held together with string. |
Before any repairs are made, pieces are stripped of old finish.
With the finish off, the base was knocked apart enough to remove the front spindles. The good spindle is used as a pattern when turning the new spindle on the lathe. And finally, you can see the new spindle installed on the rocker. |
New caning is installed in the seat. The caning will be stained to blend with the chair.
It looks like too many clamps for such a little chair! But when a frame is reglued, the joints must be held together tightly while the epoxy dries. The frame must also be square.
Finally, after being hand sanded, sealed, and sanded again, the finish is ready to be applied. It will be hand sanded between coats.
DONE!
