This was my Dad's desk with a Marshall Fields label on the front. I remember his working at it in the Chicago Shop. Dad acquired it from J. Leslie Rosenblum, a Chicago Pharmacist. The original finish was quite worn, very dark, and not protective when I decided to refinish the desk. The original color and finish was light, resembling the present finish. One photo features a set of chairs. The finish, fabric, trim, and upholstery style were dictated by the client's earliest memory of the furniture as it appeared in her Grandmother's parlor.
The husband told the wife she could keep the piece if it could be made comfortable. The old straw padding was removed, and the interior of the frame adjusted to accept contemporary padding and cushioning. The frame joints were tightened. A family heirloom left in a flooded basement, which caused the wicker to rot. We repaired the hole and repainted it. Now grand babies are going to use it.

The owner acquired this pair of chairs at an estate sale. In the "before" photo, note how the legs line up, but the backs do not. We were asked to make the chair back with the reclined angle match the chair with the upright angle. The "in process" photo shows how we made the back line up. Then we had to fill in the frame to keep it solid, then carefully reattach the leather upholstery.
This is a solid walnut chair frame. The lighter colored wood is actually new tacking strips installed for attaching the fabric. The existing strips had become chewed-up from previous reupholstering and it became necessary to replace them for the new fabric to hold. This is a solid walnut chair frame.
